Espresso, filter, pods and bean-to-cup machines. The purchase price says almost nothing about the real cost: it is the cost per cup, over several years, that separates two machines. Upkeep (descaling, cleaning the circuit, reaching the tray) decides how long it lasts more reliably than the pressure quoted in bars.

Upkeep and reliability: How easy it is to clean and descale, and how often breakdowns are reported.
